Interior Design Toronto - Spotlight on Ethan Allen

Today's Interior Design Toronto store spotlight focuses on Ethan Allen.

Ethan Allen is one of Toronto's premier retailers of upholstered seating, from sectionals to comfortable chairs to elegant benches. They also sell tables, from living room and bedroom tables to dining tables, media cabinets, storage pieces, and home office. Seventy-five percent of what Ethan Allen sells is made in North America.

In addition to these core furniture products, Ethan Allen sells home textiles, like bedding, pillows, and throws, in a lot of different styles, many with hand-applied details. In addition, Ethan Allen also sells lighting in a wide range of materials and designs plus gorgeous artwork, florals, and other accessories. They sell home and garden looks, too.

Company History

85 years ago, Ethan Allen started out as the T. Baumritter Company, eventually changing it's name to match its most popular line of furniture, which was named Ethan Allen. They liked the name because Ethan Allen embodied the pioneer spirit, and that spirit is in the company's DNA.

Ethan Allen pioneered the concept of a furniture gallery showroom; they were one of the first furniture retailers to offer free interior design service. Today, Ethan Allen operates over 300 Design Centers all over the world and sells furnishings and décor at ethanallen.ca.

What makes Ethan Allen unique?

In their own words...

At Ethan Allen, you can create a home or business space that expresses who you are and what you value. We design furnishings and accessories in a range of styles, but those styles are only the starting place. Our designers help clients combine looks in all kinds of ways to create spaces they love to live in. They also make those styles unique by helping clients choose the fabrics, finishes, and personalized touches that make each piece truly special.

Speaking of values, we're EFEC certified, which means we've been recognized as a leader in environmentally sustainable manufacturing and operations. When we say personalized, we mean it; the person who tailors your upholstery piece attaches a tag with their name on it to let you know it's crafted with pride. You can feel good about the things you purchase from Ethan Allen.

What's new in store?

In their own words...

When you visit Ethan Allen's Toronto Design Center this month, one of the first things you'll notice is our newest look, which we call Uptown. We like to say it's good taste with a hint of glitz, but it's also made to be livable and accessible – in other words, modern, affordable luxury. You'll also see global styles from Passport, the look we debuted last fall.

And these looks don't exist in a vacuum; we're always mixing and matching styles to give our visitors some fresh perspective!

If you're into outdoor living, you'll also notice we have some new pillows, rugs, umbrellas, and cushion fabrics on display. They're coordinated looks designed to make it easy to put together an outdoor space, but again, you can customize these looks with a range of durable, high-quality outdoor fabrics and finishes.

Plans for the future

Ethan Allen has a lot of things ahead for summer and fall. They're debuting a new line of home and garden furniture later this summer, along with a big assortment of wallcoverings and wall murals. The inHome app, which lets people preview Ethan Allen furniture in their space thanks to the magic of augmented reality, is almost ready to launch.

In the fall, they'll be debuting a new look called Artisan, which has a really modern and casual vibe. Artisan pieces will feature lots of mixed materials, from wood furniture with performance finishes to accent tables made from fiber cement. You'll see sleek, smaller-scale, Scandinavian-inspired furniture styling, plus some really incredible textiles with prints you've never seen anywhere else. And of course, true to the Artisan name, you'll find new handcrafted accents, including some incredible Vietnamese lacquerware and recycled glass pieces.
