What is Mindfulness?

The Greater Good Science Center defines mindfulness as “maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment.” Mindfulness is a wonderful tool as it encourages us to pay careful attention to every decision that we make. Studies have linked the practice of mindfulness with improved quality of life as well as a wide range of mental and physical health benefits.

In a Ministry of Calm survey, 99% of respondents said that changing your space can affect how you feel. Taking a mindful approach to décor can help to establish a calming home environment that takes away the stresses of the day. Mindfulness encourages us to put thought into our design decisions in such a way as to promote purpose, happiness and serenity.

How to Apply the Principles of Mindfulness in Your Interior Design

When decorating, the first question you must ask yourself is: what makes you feel good in your home? Consider your house as a whole and think carefully about how you can create a sense of balance and mindfulness that flows from room to room.
