Company History
In Michael's own words…
MINIMAL, the newly-opened Toronto showroom featuring contemporary Italian furniture new to this part of the world and never before seen in our city – was born over 25 years ago in Belfast, Ireland, where proprietor Michael Cunningham got his start in his father’s high-end European furniture showroom. Surrounded by furniture from the likes of Eileen Grey, Le Corbusioer and Mies Van der Rohe. Michael grew up only knowing the best-of-the-best and how to provide customer service bar-none.
Relocating from Ireland to Toronto in 2013, Michael honed his skills at 2 of the handful of high-end showrooms in the Design District on King St. E., and it was here with his exposure to the trade combined with his entrepreneurial spirit, he recognized there was an opportunity for a greater array of products and services he believed was missing in the marketplace and inspired the next step into launching his own brand.
In a hidden, historic building off of King W., the boutique MINIMAL showroom was opened in mid-2020, during the COVID and has quickly established itself as a jewel in the furniture business.
What makes Minimal Toronto unique?
More than simply a showroom, by appointment, the MINIMAL team can provide a full range of services to designers and customers alike, including specifications, design consultation, and project management. With experience in new construction and renovations, MINIMAL works with architects, designers, decorators and contractors, coordinating installation requirements for their beautiful interior doors systems, built-in millwork, and kitchens, ensuring seamless integration into any environment. Michael has carefully chosen a very selective range of products to be able to outfit an entire home, providing a complete MINIMAL lifestyle.
What's new in store?
Within their kitchen lines, one of the truly unique offerings which must be seen in-person, is the kitchen systems from theCUT, designed by architect Alessandro Isola and offering numerous unique features, including: fully stone-clad cabinetry, drop-down drawers, rotating tables, customizable central units, and modular shelving.
Plans for the Future
MINIMAL plans to grow its presence in the city over the next year in order to serve the Toronto design community.
