Interior Design Toronto - Spotlight on Ridgely Studio Works

Today's Interior Design Toronto store spotlight focuses on Ridgely Studio Works, one of Toronto's premier Lighting retailers.

What brands do Ridgely Studio Works represent?

All lighting fixtures sold at Ridgely Studio Works are designed by Zac Ridgely himself.

Not only is Zac an artist who graduated from the Fine Arts program at Emily Carr, he is the son of architect Gordon Ridgely. Zac grew up surrounded by creativity, blueprints and construction sites…and in 2000, Zac launched Ridgely Studio Works as a way to explore his passion for sculpture and light.

Ridgely Studio Works is a favourite for local architects and designers who are looking for special and unique pieces that were able to make a statement while fitting perfectly into their surroundings.

During the past 19 years, Ridgely Studio Works has continued to grow steadily and now services international clients through their standard product line with custom capabilities.

Company History

Under the watchful eye and leadership of Zac Ridgely, Ridgely Studio Works pushes the boundaries of form by creating lighting that combines beauty, innovation, artistic sculpture and function. The unique designs incorporate materials that may not initially be associated with lighting, but result in elegant and inspired fixtures with a sculptural edge. Crushed glass, hand cut art glass, stainless steel mesh, spun steel and golden aluminum are all given new life and perspective through the designs. The team at Ridgely Studio Works is committed to excellence. All pieces are batch produced in Canada, to the highest level of quality, with extraordinary attention to detail. This superior quality, and the inventiveness of the work, has made Ridgely Studio Works a popular choice among leading architects and designers worldwide.

In addition to Zac’s lighting masterpieces, the Studio has expanded into select furniture design and build.

What makes Ridgely Studio Works unique?

Ridgely Studio Works is proud to manufacture our lighting fixtures in Toronto, Canada from locally sourced materials. Each of our fixtures is made to order; designed in house, and fabricated by a small, dedicated team. The pieces can be uniquely customized and tailored to suit your space, including size, finish and colour temperature of the lighting.

Along with new materials, we also use a variety of reclaimed materials in our designs - from recycled bicycle frames to reclaimed tempered glass, re-purposed into new and given new life in our products. Other designs capitalize on the shine of hand polished steel or the subtle texture of the seeded glass cast by our local supplier. All come together to create dynamic light fixtures that complement the interiors they are featured in.

What's new in store?

Our newest fixture, the Gem Pendant was debuted at the ICFF NYC 2019. The GEM pendant is inspired by the ancient abacus - the hand blown opaque white opal glass diffuser mimics the shape of a counting bead. Simply and elegantly suspended from a fine stainless-steel cable, the pendant seems to float in place.

The brushed brass rod is also available in a variety of custom finishes and lengths. The GEM pendant is beautiful alone or grouped together in a custom configuration.

Ridgely Studio Works - Plans for the Future

Thanks to Zac’s imagination, Ridgely Studio Works is always working on new designs - both for custom projects and as potential additions to our product line.
